1920s bungalow revamp
This 1920s bungalow was full of personality but lacked in functionality. The client wished to maximise the performance of the home with contemporary finishes, whilst keeping its original bungalow character. This project largely comprised of a rear addition to the stunning 1920s-character bungalow, with minor renovations made to several existing areas.
With natural light a key feature of the extension, an open plan living/meals area was created which seamlessly integrated to an undercover terrace via a raked ceiling, resulting in it becoming a key feature of the renovation. A theatre room was also incorporated to the design, which along with the remainder of the extension, almost doubled the living spaces within the home.
In keeping with the desire to celebrate the character of the home, a blend of restored colonial and new (matched) bricks were cleverly integrated into the design as were other elements such as the installation of exposed rafters externally to the rear. A renovation doesn’t have to mean that you lose the personality of your home, this renovation embraced and then enhanced the existing characteristics – a perfect outcome.
